H&R Point Series

After a short delay, I have been able to finally update the H&R points series. This includes Weeks 2 & 3. The individual classes seem to have favorites, but the overall is still kinda close.

Also, a reminder. Racing on November 16th will be relocated from KRP to S&S Speedway as Scott will be out of town. We will still race the LMP, Group C, and GT classes.

I Hope to see you all at the track!

S&S Speedway Week 4 Recap

This being the second time around for the LMP, Group C, and GT classes we were able to show some overall improvement. In total we had seven racers this evening competing in five groups throughout the night.

Sam Jr. would take his NSR Audi R18 to Winner's Circle for the overall win, edging out Scott 81 to 80 laps. Dean's Ninco Acura completed 79 laps, the highest of B group, in route to 3rd place overall. The fastest lap record would be reset by Clem and his Spirit Cougar with 7.265 seconds in Blue lane.

The Group C class would only see A group competition this race. Sam Jr. would again complete 81 laps for the overall victory and new race record, and set the fastest lap record at 7.512 in the blue lane. Dean finished 2nd at 78 laps, meanwhile Scott's Pipslot Chassis Porsche 962 crossed the line in 3rd with 73 laps over Bill W and Mark respectively.

The GT race had some heavy hitters entered in A group with both Sam Jr. and Scott running NSR Moslers in the "Asshole" paint scheme. Sam was able to snag the win at 79 laps over Scott and Dean who both completed 77 laps. Sam again set the new race record, but Scott would set the fastest lap record with a 7.299 in Blue lane. S group racing would be close this evening with Bill W's Scalextric Jaugar making 75 trips around S&S Speedway, and Mark with his Scalextric Aston Martin only making it around 74 times.

We have a regional race this coming Saturday at Kozo Raceway Park with the Penn/Jersey 1/32 series. The track will open at 10:00 am and racing will start by 12:30 pm. More information about the rules can be found at the following link.

Race Recaps

First, I Apologize to everyone for not updating weekly. Here is the recap from the past 3 weeks.

September 14th marked the start to our new season of racing, including the new classes and race procedures. We had 13 racers for the opening night, and we raced the LMP, Group C, and GT classes. There was a nice mix of entries in the A (Podded Chassis), B (Flat Chassis), and S (Stock) Sub-groups in all three races. With this new style of racing, all track records per class were set tonight.

In LMP, Sam Sr. finished 1st overall in his ProSlot Toyota GT1, setting the class record at S&S Speedway of 78 laps. Dean would win the B group, and set the track lap time record of 7.582 in his Ninco Acura. Sean would take the top spot in the S group.

The Group C race would only have entries in the A and B groups. Sam Jr., in his Slot.it, mirrored his father's run setting the class record at 78 laps, winning overall. Bill W. finished 4th overall with his SRC Lola T-600, but was 1st in class of the B group. Scott set the record lap time at 7.676 in his Nationals prepared SRC Lola.

The best mix of cars would be saved for the last race of the night in the GT Class. We had 5 A cars, 5 B cars, and 3 S cars, with everything from NSR to Stock Scalextric, and even a Fly C5r Corvette. Dean completed 77 laps in his overall win. Tony J would take home the class win in B group, and the S group was claimed by Sean. Sam Sr. set the race fastest lap at 7.659.

Week 2 was on September 21st at Kozo Raceway Park. On the card for the evening was Group 5, Trans-Am, and Can Am. Only 6 racers made it to the track, so the racing was quick.

The B group would show some strength in the Group 5 race, with the overall win (58 Laps) and fastest lap (8.506) going to Scott driving a Fly Lancia Beta, and an honorable mention to Sam Sr. for also achieving the 8.506 lap time with his Fly Racing Capri. Bill W drove his Racer Sideways Lancia Beta to the top spot in the A group.

In Trans-Am Scott was able to place his Scalextric Nationals '69 Camaro (B Group) in 1st overall with 54 laps. Joe B had his Sunoco Camaro set up well, finishing 2nd overall and 1st in S group. Clem was the only racer to have an aftermarket chassis prepared, but some mechanical trouble would take his A group entry out of the race early. Sam Sr. set the fast lap with his Pioneer Mustang at 8.729

The Slot.it presence was known in the A group of the Can Am race with all three racers in either full slot.it cars or a slot.it chassis. Bill W and Mark battled it out in their Carrera Porsches with Mark taking the S group class win. Sam Sr. drove his Monogram to the top spot in B group while Scott finished 1st overall in his A group Slot.it McLaren M8D completing 60 laps, and setting the fast time at 7.989.

Out third race week was the first week of Tom's Point Series for the 1/24 H&R classes. This season we are racing Vintage Trans-Am, Modern Trans-Am, and Can Am. The racing was close all night, and the positions on track were sometimes separated by inches for the finish.

Vintage Trans-Am had Dean out front in his Camaro, but Scott's Challenger and Sam Jr.'s Camaro would fall a lap behind at 60, 59, and 59 respectively for the top 3. Mark also completed 59 laps, but was not able to make up the distance. There were three other 2-way ties between Sam Sr. and Tom 2, Bob L. and Bill W., and Clem and Billy Z. Dean set fast race lap at 8.533, but the record still belongs to Scott at 8.266 set on 6/25/16.

The highly anticipated Modern Trans-Am class proved to be a success even though most racers only completed their cars days earlier. Dean would once again top everyone with his C5r Corvette at 59 laps, but the Mopar power of Scott and Sean's Challengers would fill out the podium both with 57 laps. Dean set the class record fast lap at 8.120.

The Can Am class finally made its debut after over a year of discussion. Once again, the clear coat on most cars was still gassing out at the drop of the green. Scott was able to take the Mac's Special Lola T-70 to victory lane edging out Dean's Lola on distance covered over 64 laps. Sean double dipped the Mac's Special taking 3rd place as well, with Mark triple dipping for 6th. Fastest lap record goes to Scott at 7.825.

Fall 2017 Season

The revised class rules and the Fall 2017 Schedule have been emailed out, and are also updated here on the blog.

Through your feedback, Sam Jr. and Scott have put in a YUGH effort to implement new ideas and simplify the classes.

This season, we will be back to racing 3 classes a night. It is imperative that everyone does their part to facilitate this change. We will not be able to have long down time, or multiple track calls. Racing will start at 7:15 each night, and will will place anyone that informs us they will be late at the end of the rotation.

I will be at S&S Speedway this week (9/7/17) to answer any questions or exlain any parts of the new formats.

Recap from KRP 3/23/17

The Slot.it Open Cockpit class would take to the track at Kozo Raceway Park for the first time this past Thursday. The Matra-Simcas of Dean and Sam Jr. would show as fast cars, though they would be unable to keep up with Scott's Chaparral. Bill W. would finish 4th in his Ferrari 312 PB just behind Sam Jr. Sam Sr. would complete the Barbose/Watkins sandwich with another Ferrari 312 PB. Tony returned to weekly racing in the Vic Elford McLaren and Mike T would bring up the rear with his Alpha 33/3. This class has been raced multiple times at S&S Speedway and, as it did at KRP, the racing was close. This race was only separated by 6 laps, with only 3 laps 1st through 6th. Dave K's Chaparral was not pictured.
The '65-'72 LeMans class has been a staple of or club racing since the days of racing in Clem's basement. There was something different this time at KRP though. This was the first time the fuel feature was used for the class. Both race records and lap records would remain safe this time. The major manufacturers of Ford, Ferrari, Lola, and Porsche were represented.
Racing next week shifts over to the oval at No-Way... Speedway with the Modern NASCAR and Monogram NASCAR classes. Be sure the check the rules for each class to be sure you comply.

Email Bill W if you need his address.

Monday, March 13, 2017

Hello All. Just a reminder, the race classes from the postponed race night at S&S Speedway will run this week instead of the originally scheduled classes, the schedule has been updated. We will be racing the Trans-Am Mod (18k, wheels, and gears) and the DTM 18k. It was decided these classes would be better to run as there are more cars prepared.

Here are a few pics from the last two race nights. I apologize that I have been unable to update the blog.

See you at the track!

Recap from Crestview Speedway

After another late start, caused by some issues with the scoring system, racing finally got under way first up was the "Barnyard," or rather as they are really called, the Fairground Bombers. This race showed some difficulties for most drivers. Sam Sr. would have a rear end poblem with the bushings popping out under cornering load off turn 4. Scott would show up and fill in driving duties in a 3rd Barbose entry. Bryan would take the #21 Warrior Run Racing as a hired driver as well. Something clicked with Mike T in the middle of the race. After almost everyone else told him he was overdriving the car, a few smooth laps registered as faster on the lap counter. Too bad this was his final heat.
The second race of the evening was the Scalextric Dallara INDY cars. This is a stock class with slip on silicone tires. The challange with the INDY cars over the Bombers is the pit stops for fuel. The open wheel design requires the driver to stop with the side pod of the car over the pit sensor. If the driver stops to early, or late, the sensor may not be covered by any part of the car, which will mandate another lap around to try it again. Bill W. and Scott would sit out this race, though they would stay to help marshal. Sam Sr's Mobile 1 and Sam Jr's Coca-Coal Dallaras would get tangled up exiting turn 2 eventually coming to a stop on the back stretch. The safety trucks would get them seperated, and racing continued.

I apologize to everyone, as I was unable to get the results form this evening.

Aslo, a reminder, KRP is unable to host this week, February 16th, and S&S Speedway has graciously stepped up to take over the race night. We are still racing the same Racer Sideways Group 5 and LMP 18k classes. The schedule page has been updated to reflect the location change.

KRP Results February 2nd, 2017

Though Phil decided he did in fact see his shadow at about 7:20 AM in Puxatony, PA the racing must go in. This first Thursday of February saw racing return to Kozo Raceway Park for second time in 2017. A slight delay started the evening off later than usual as the second McManus racing hauler was slow to arrive at the track. The lower than usual turnout allowed us to wait as Bryan was able to make his last minute race adjustments. This wasn't the only equipment issue though as the Watkins Racing cars arrived at the wrong racetrack, going to S&S Speedway instead of KRP. We had six drivers competing this evening, and up first was the Carrera Group 5 cars, night racing. As KRP had upgraded the scoring system for 2017, all classes will be raced with pit stops. These fuel levels are set specific to the class, which makes for some interesting scenarios.
The first heat of the evening saw Scott, Dean, and Bryan all finish on lap 17 setting up an exciting race. Sean would have some motor and tire issues early on in his run, only completing 14 laps in the red lane and switching into a more competitive car finishing 50 laps. Bryan would turn in a consistent 17 across all lanes, and make it around 51 times. Joe would make up for the slow start in the red lane, setting the record lap time for the class, 8.738, by the time he finished his race on lap 53. Dean would average 18 laps per lane in route to his 3rd place finish, 54 laps. Clem and Scott would both finish on lap 55, with Clem taking the win by distance even though the scoring system showed him in 2nd place. The total lap record of 56, set by Dean without pit stops, was not challenged in this race.

The Can Am race was just as competitive as the previous Group 5 race, with the lap spread the same 5 laps from 1st to 6th. Bryan's Fly Porsche 917/10 would have a lackluster start in the blue lane, but later came on strong in white and red lanes, for a total of 53 laps. Joe's Ferrari (on a cheater Slot.it HRS chassis) would edge out Bryan for position by distance. Dean, in one of three Monogram Lola T-70s, would be bumped out of the podiums this race by Clem's weathered Lola T-70 both on lap 54. Sean would take his Black Label Carrera McLaren to 2nd place with 56 trips around the track. Scott's #99 Mac's Special Lola T-70 would turn in the record fast lap, 8.217, in route to his 57 lap victory. The total lap record of 58, set by Bill W without pit stops, was not challenged this race.

The club will race at the Crestview Speedway oval at Sam Jr's house next week. On the card for the evening will be the Scalextric INDY Dallara class as well as our final points race for the Fairground Bomber class. Once the points are calculated, the leader will win a Carrera car that was donated by Dave Kennedy.

Results from 1/26 at S&S Speedway

The evening started off with the return of a few drivers. Joe L. made the trip up I-81 and Chip and Bryan also made their first starts of 2017. On the race card tonight was Slot.it Group C and Carrera DTM. The current series of Carrera DTM cars have to be some of the best out of the box stock cars dollar for dollar.
Picture of the cars in no particular order (missing Chip's)
The first heat was set with 2 drivers new to our fuel racing. Joe L and Chip were quick to catch on to the theory, but would have trouble getting the pit stop timing down, missing the pits a few laps throughout the race. Joe B brought up the rear of the field in the Kozo Racing #17 Shell Porsche 962 on lap 70 with a best time of 7.794. Joe L, in only his second appearance at S&S Speedway, would finish 71 laps in his #19 Shell Porsche 962, clocking in a competitive time of 7.756. If it was not for pitting mistakes, he could have gained a few positions. Mike T's #55 Mazda, after some mechanical issues in practice, eventually circled the track 74 times running an 8.202. Clem drove his #60 Castrol Jaguar for 76 circuits, and 8.057. Chip had a fairly successful return for 77 laps, with a fast lap of 8.006. Sam Sr. made the top 5 this week in his #2 RACING Porsche, even though he doesn't like the orange end-bell motors, on lap 78 setting a best of 7.738. Scott's Lancia LC2, after missing the pits 3 times, would edge out Bryan's Blaupunkt Porsche for 3rd place with laps of 7.507 and 7.853, respectively. Sam Jr. would also have trouble this race making the pit entry, causing his #27 FromA Porsche to make at least 3 extra laps. His best lap of 7.39 ends up misleading compared to his 80 lap total. Dean piloted his #35 Silk Cut Jaguar  for a total of 83 laps, and a best of 7.542.
The Camaro convertible pace car
collects the pack after the race
The DTM race started out with Sam Jr. claiming his usual "POS" about the fastest car on the track. It was nice to see another diverse field, with no duplicate liveries. Four Audis, three AMG-Mercedies, two BMW M4s, and one BMW M3 would thunder to the green flag. The parody of these cars really showed after the top 3, each different makes, finished on lap 78 with 4th and 5th places on lap 77. Joe L was able to shine in the second race of the evening, finishing in 4th place running the 3rd best lap time of the class at 8.069. Sam Jr. would set the record lap time at 7.864 while Scott would be the first to lap 78 claiming the record laps. Chip would make a strong run in the DHL AMG-Mercedies in 6th place only 2 laps behind the leader.

Racing next week moves to Kozo Raceway Park with Can Am 18k and Carrera Group 5 (lighted). The following week we will be at Crestview Speedway to run Scalextric INDY Dallara and finish out our Fairground Bomber series.

Results from S&S Speedway

A small turnout this week at S&S Speedway didn't hamper the racing action. With only five drivers present, Scott suggested to run "Crash and Burn" style, where if a car de-slotted, it would sit there until the end of the heat. If a de-slotted car was in another drivers way, they would have to gently use their own car to push it out of the way. Joe wasn't too keen on those rules, and asked if the drivers could run around the track and re-slot their cars. Dean then dubbed this style "Crash and Learn!"

The grid McLarens for the Vanquish Can Am race
Up first was the Vanquish Can Am class. All races included pit stops, as we have decided it makes our club racing more fun. This being the first time at S&S Speedway racing these classes with pit stops all class records were new. Dean, in his Ninco NC6 powered Auto World #54 McLaren, had a few on track incidents. During his sit out heat he made a car repair and returned to the track, eventually completing 64 laps, with a fast lap of 8.887. Joe, also in an Auto World #5 but with an H&R Hawk power plant, fared better than Dean... though not by much, also made 64 laps. Joe's fats lap was an 8.373. Mike (Proy) was a hired driver this week in the Kozo Racing Ninco NC6 powered #83 McLaren, with a total of 68 laps and a best lap of 8.282. The top two positions could have gone either way, with the last heat deciding things. Sam Jr. in his Roy Woods Racing Ninco NC6 motored #2 McLaren would step out to an early lead from the white lane, making 19 laps. Returning back to racing he tied for the lane lead in red of 17 laps, and completed the most laps in yellow, 19, to finish out his race. At the end, Scott's Penske Racing #8 McLaren with a Fly Racing Evo 2 motor was able to make back a lap in both the blue and white lanes, 20 each, to take the overall finish on lap 75. Sam's fastest lap was 8.017 and Scott set the new record lap at 7.831.

Finishing order for the DP race
Second race of the night was the Daytona Prototype 18K class. All drivers were in Racer Sideways DPs with H&R Hawk 18k motors. Joe's #99 Gainsco Red Dragon Pontiac Riley would stumble early in the red lane making the least laps at 15, but then finish strong in the last three heats, eventually making 70 trips around the 82' average S&S Speedway. Three drivers would end up on lap 74. Scott's #10 Sun Trust Ford Dallara (median lap of 7.796) seemed to be the only challenge to Sam (median lap of 7.6) for the lead, but would have fuel issues in the white lane only completing 17 laps. Dean's #61 Gold/Barrick Ford Riley would prove to not be enough to take 2nd place away from Mike T's #23 Iowa Hawkeyes Pontiac Riley, with best laps of 7.942 and 7.940 respectively. Sam Jr. set out on a blistering pace with a fast lap of 7.405 and no worse than 20 laps per heat picking up 21 in blue and yellow. Finishing out the race on lap 82 setting the class records.

It was an early evening still and a 3rd race was requested. Scott supplied a set of four Carrera DTM cars, one of each model. The STIHL AMG-Mercedes in red lane, the ICE BMW M4 in white, the Castrol EDGE BMW M3 in blue, and the SCHAEFFLER Audi A5 rounding out the group in yellow. Mike T would struggle only completing 66 laps, and a best of 8.400. Scott would have problems in the white lane and just edge out Mike for the position. Joe had trouble with the yellow lane, but was still able to make a fast lap of 8.228 and turn 68 circuits. Dean raced well across all lanes, at 74 laps, and turning an 8.181 lap. Sam Jr. was just hooked up with the yellow lane getting in 21 laps over the 3 minute heat, for a total of 76 laps. Sam's best lap would end up at 7.941. Scott would claim the fastest lap record at 7.902.

Next week, racing is at S&S Speedway again, with the Slot.it Group C (stock) and Carrera DTM classes. Don't forget the schedule can be viewed and printed by clicking the link on the top of the page.

Here are the results from tonight's races.

Results from Kozo Raceway Park

This past week was the first race of 2017. As the schedule runs through it's course we will race most of the classes that have been established. We started off two of our rubber tire classes, NSR GT 18k and Carrera Vintage NASCAR. In the Race Management Software (RMS) I called the Carrera class Darkside NASCAR. This is a common name in the NASCAR community for the time before the modern era (1983-present) but after the major factory backing had ended.

Mike T brings up the rear on the parade lap
The NASCAR field thunders through the downhill esses
First race of the evening was NSR GT. Frank made a return to Thursday night racing piloting a Kozo
Racing Audi R8, improving on his previous lap count finishing with 55 completed circuits. Evan still in on winter break, driving a Porsche 997, was able to loop the track 56 times. Mike T's Aston Martin edged out Sean's Corvette C6R at 58 laps, while Bill W passed Clem on lap 59 in their Corvettes. A new lap total record was set by Scott Kozokas at 67 laps, though his 7.545 sec. fast lap was not good enough to beat his Track Class Record of 7.461 sec.

Second feature race tonight was the Carrera Darkside Vintage NASCAR. These stock cars sit just a bit high, so we lower them a bit. It's optional to change the motor out for an H&R Hawk 18k, and we use 15x8 wheels all around, usually the CB Designs Steel Wheels. Evan took Wendel Scott's #34 Torino around 48 times, even though it was at full ride height making it just that muh more difficult. Sean raced for Warrior Run Racing in the #22 Dodge Charger Daytona finishing just behind Frank in the Kozo Racing blue #43 Petty Torino on lap 51. Smokey's Garage was represented by Mike T in the #13 black and gold Torino making 52 trips around the 80' track. Bill W made his second top 3 of the night in his Donnie Allison #27 red and black Torino with 53 laps. Benny Parsons' #98 Torino claimed second place for Clem's second top 3 as well finishing on lap 55. This was the first time the Darkside NASCAR class was raced at KRP since the new scoring system was installed, with Scott, in the yellow and black #58 Dodge Charger claiming the records for both lap total and fast lap at 58 laps, and a best lap of 8.862 sec.

The next three weeks racing will be at S&S Speedway, featuring H&R classes, Vanquish Can-Am, Daytona Prototype 18k, Slot.it Group C, and Carrera DTM. Reminder, Slot.it C and Carrera DTM races with the stock motor that came in the car.
