Results from Kozo Raceway Park

This past week was the first race of 2017. As the schedule runs through it's course we will race most of the classes that have been established. We started off two of our rubber tire classes, NSR GT 18k and Carrera Vintage NASCAR. In the Race Management Software (RMS) I called the Carrera class Darkside NASCAR. This is a common name in the NASCAR community for the time before the modern era (1983-present) but after the major factory backing had ended.

First race of the evening was NSR GT. Frank made a return to Thursday night racing piloting a Kozo
Racing Audi R8, improving on his previous lap count finishing with 55 completed circuits. Evan still in on winter break, driving a Porsche 997, was able to loop the track 56 times. Mike T's Aston Martin edged out Sean's Corvette C6R at 58 laps, while Bill W passed Clem on lap 59 in their Corvettes. A new lap total record was set by Scott Kozokas at 67 laps, though his 7.545 sec. fast lap was not good enough to beat his Track Class Record of 7.461 sec.

Second feature race tonight was the Carrera Darkside Vintage NASCAR. These stock cars sit just a bit high, so we lower them a bit. It's optional to change the motor out for an H&R Hawk 18k, and we use 15x8 wheels all around, usually the CB Designs Steel Wheels. Evan took Wendel Scott's #34 Torino around 48 times, even though it was at full ride height making it just that muh more difficult. Sean raced for Warrior Run Racing in the #22 Dodge Charger Daytona finishing just behind Frank in the Kozo Racing blue #43 Petty Torino on lap 51. Smokey's Garage was represented by Mike T in the #13 black and gold Torino making 52 trips around the 80' track. Bill W made his second top 3 of the night in his Donnie Allison #27 red and black Torino with 53 laps. Benny Parsons' #98 Torino claimed second place for Clem's second top 3 as well finishing on lap 55. This was the first time the Darkside NASCAR class was raced at KRP since the new scoring system was installed, with Scott, in the yellow and black #58 Dodge Charger claiming the records for both lap total and fast lap at 58 laps, and a best lap of 8.862 sec.

The next three weeks racing will be at S&S Speedway, featuring H&R classes, Vanquish Can-Am, Daytona Prototype 18k, Slot.it Group C, and Carrera DTM. Reminder, Slot.it C and Carrera DTM races with the stock motor that came in the car.
