Results from 1/26 at S&S Speedway

The evening started off with the return of a few drivers. Joe L. made the trip up I-81 and Chip and Bryan also made their first starts of 2017. On the race card tonight was Slot.it Group C and Carrera DTM. The current series of Carrera DTM cars have to be some of the best out of the box stock cars dollar for dollar.

The first heat was set with 2 drivers new to our fuel racing. Joe L and Chip were quick to catch on to the theory, but would have trouble getting the pit stop timing down, missing the pits a few laps throughout the race. Joe B brought up the rear of the field in the Kozo Racing #17 Shell Porsche 962 on lap 70 with a best time of 7.794. Joe L, in only his second appearance at S&S Speedway, would finish 71 laps in his #19 Shell Porsche 962, clocking in a competitive time of 7.756. If it was not for pitting mistakes, he could have gained a few positions. Mike T's #55 Mazda, after some mechanical issues in practice, eventually circled the track 74 times running an 8.202. Clem drove his #60 Castrol Jaguar for 76 circuits, and 8.057. Chip had a fairly successful return for 77 laps, with a fast lap of 8.006. Sam Sr. made the top 5 this week in his #2 RACING Porsche, even though he doesn't like the orange end-bell motors, on lap 78 setting a best of 7.738. Scott's Lancia LC2, after missing the pits 3 times, would edge out Bryan's Blaupunkt Porsche for 3rd place with laps of 7.507 and 7.853, respectively. Sam Jr. would also have trouble this race making the pit entry, causing his #27 FromA Porsche to make at least 3 extra laps. His best lap of 7.39 ends up misleading compared to his 80 lap total. Dean piloted his #35 Silk Cut Jaguar  for a total of 83 laps, and a best of 7.542.

The DTM race started out with Sam Jr. claiming his usual "POS" about the fastest car on the track. It was nice to see another diverse field, with no duplicate liveries. Four Audis, three AMG-Mercedies, two BMW M4s, and one BMW M3 would thunder to the green flag. The parody of these cars really showed after the top 3, each different makes, finished on lap 78 with 4th and 5th places on lap 77. Joe L was able to shine in the second race of the evening, finishing in 4th place running the 3rd best lap time of the class at 8.069. Sam Jr. would set the record lap time at 7.864 while Scott would be the first to lap 78 claiming the record laps. Chip would make a strong run in the DHL AMG-Mercedies in 6th place only 2 laps behind the leader.

Racing next week moves to Kozo Raceway Park with Can Am 18k and Carrera Group 5 (lighted). The following week we will be at Crestview Speedway to run Scalextric INDY Dallara and finish out our Fairground Bomber series.
