KRP Results February 2nd, 2017

Though Phil decided he did in fact see his shadow at about 7:20 AM in Puxatony, PA the racing must go in. This first Thursday of February saw racing return to Kozo Raceway Park for second time in 2017. A slight delay started the evening off later than usual as the second McManus racing hauler was slow to arrive at the track. The lower than usual turnout allowed us to wait as Bryan was able to make his last minute race adjustments. This wasn't the only equipment issue though as the Watkins Racing cars arrived at the wrong racetrack, going to S&S Speedway instead of KRP. We had six drivers competing this evening, and up first was the Carrera Group 5 cars, night racing. As KRP had upgraded the scoring system for 2017, all classes will be raced with pit stops. These fuel levels are set specific to the class, which makes for some interesting scenarios.
The first heat of the evening saw Scott, Dean, and Bryan all finish on lap 17 setting up an exciting race. Sean would have some motor and tire issues early on in his run, only completing 14 laps in the red lane and switching into a more competitive car finishing 50 laps. Bryan would turn in a consistent 17 across all lanes, and make it around 51 times. Joe would make up for the slow start in the red lane, setting the record lap time for the class, 8.738, by the time he finished his race on lap 53. Dean would average 18 laps per lane in route to his 3rd place finish, 54 laps. Clem and Scott would both finish on lap 55, with Clem taking the win by distance even though the scoring system showed him in 2nd place. The total lap record of 56, set by Dean without pit stops, was not challenged in this race.

The Can Am race was just as competitive as the previous Group 5 race, with the lap spread the same 5 laps from 1st to 6th. Bryan's Fly Porsche 917/10 would have a lackluster start in the blue lane, but later came on strong in white and red lanes, for a total of 53 laps. Joe's Ferrari (on a cheater Slot.it HRS chassis) would edge out Bryan for position by distance. Dean, in one of three Monogram Lola T-70s, would be bumped out of the podiums this race by Clem's weathered Lola T-70 both on lap 54. Sean would take his Black Label Carrera McLaren to 2nd place with 56 trips around the track. Scott's #99 Mac's Special Lola T-70 would turn in the record fast lap, 8.217, in route to his 57 lap victory. The total lap record of 58, set by Bill W without pit stops, was not challenged this race.

The club will race at the Crestview Speedway oval at Sam Jr's house next week. On the card for the evening will be the Scalextric INDY Dallara class as well as our final points race for the Fairground Bomber class. Once the points are calculated, the leader will win a Carrera car that was donated by Dave Kennedy.
